Your first Kundli: where to begin

A practical introduction to birth details, chart symbols and the questions worth asking before your first reading.

A Kundli is a birth chart used in Indian astrology. Think of your first encounter with one as learning a new visual language: you do not need to understand every symbol at once. Begin with the information behind the chart and the question you want to explore.

Start with your birth details

Write down your birth date, recorded birth time and birthplace. If possible, check a birth record rather than relying only on memory. Keep the original place name and clarify whether the time is exact or approximate. An honest uncertainty is more useful than an invented minute.

If your birth time is unknown, say so. Ask which parts of the interpretation depend on it, and what the astrologer can reasonably discuss without it. Different chart methods and assumptions can lead to different readings.

Ask for a guided explanation

Rather than beginning with a list of technical terms, ask the reader to explain what they are looking at and why it matters to your question. A useful conversation makes room for follow-up questions and distinguishes a traditional interpretation from something you can independently verify.

  • Which birth details were used?
  • Which chart or method are we discussing?
  • How would an approximate birth time affect this interpretation?
  • What practical reflection can I take away?

Bring one clear question

“I am comparing two career paths; what themes should I reflect on?” gives a conversation more direction than “Tell me everything.” Keep your real circumstances in view, including your responsibilities, resources and choices.

Keep a short record

Afterwards, note what was discussed, what remains uncertain and what you want to think about. Astrology is a traditional interpretive practice, not a guarantee of events. Treat the reading as one perspective while making your own decisions.

You can prepare your details using our birth profile form. It currently stores information on your device; it does not calculate a chart.
